A Message from the Superintendent of PVSchools
Like many of you, with the recent news of yet another act of violence within a school community, my heart is heavy. Though this most recent act of violence was in Texas, it may still cause fear, anxiety, and concern here at home. That’s why today I want to reiterate our commitment to the safety and security of our students, staff, and school campuses.
Daily, we take steps to help ensure a safe learning environment. Securing our entrances by using single-point ingress and egress, following procedures for visitor check-in, and partnering with the Phoenix Police Department show just some of the things we do to keep our students and staff safe.
We’ve seen success with our safety procedures and continue to make decisions out of an abundance of caution. In fact, last night a police situation in a neighborhood near one of our schools caused us to lock down an after-school program. This precautionary lockdown isn’t unlike other lockdowns we’ve implemented throughout the year. It’s important to note that we approach student safety with the utmost care and caution. However, school safety relies on each of us doing our part, working together toward a common goal.
Over the next couple of days, our schools will welcome visitors to their campuses for end-of-year activities, we’ll celebrate milestones, and wish our graduates well as they continue on their journey of excellence. Throughout these activities, I ask that our community remain vigilant by adhering to our safety procedures and reporting any suspicious behavior to law enforcement. In this way, we are all truly working together to keep our schools safe.
Thank you for your continued support of safe campuses, and student success in PVSchools.
May you have a safe, restful, and relaxing summer break.
Troy J. Bales, Ed.D.
